Paul A. Calvo was named 2025 Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year at the annual Guam Business Magazine Executive of the Year award gala held last night at the Hyatt Regency Guam.

A graduate of Menlo College’s School of Business Administration in Atherton, Calif., Calvo was introduced to the world of business at a young age. He said his father, businessman and politician former Gov. Paul M. Calvo, along with his uncles Eddie Calvo, Jerry Calvo and Henry Schnabel were role models.

It was also the “thrill of making the deal” that drew Paul A. Calvo into the business world.

He was first appointed at Calvo’s Insurance in 1983 as a personal line claims coordinator, assisting clients in understanding their coverage and filing automobile and home claims.

Slowly, he worked his way up the ladder, learning more about the insurance business before becoming the manager of Calvo’s Life & Health Insurance Department.

He eventually became president and CEO of Calvo’s Insurance and pioneered new programs, including the insurance customer loyalty program, the Calvo’s Lifestyle Club, and 24/7 roadside assistance program, among others.

He also serves as president of Calvo’s Insurance Saipan and president of Calvo’s Insurance Palau. He is chairman of the board of SelectCare Philippines, vice chairman of Guahan Waste Control Inc., which does business as Mr. Rubbishman, vice president and board director of Pay-Less Markets Inc., board director of PMC Investments Inc. and board director of Title Guaranty of Guam. He also led negotiations for the acquisition of Tokio Marine Pacific Insurance, now called Calvo’s SelectCare Insurance Inc.

The late governor, Paul M. Calvo, was the recipient of the award in 1992.

Calvo’s Insurance supports several non-profits and community events. These include the Edward M. Calvo Cancer Foundation, Pay-Less Kick the Fat Run, UOG Endowment Foundation, American Red Cross, Catholic Social Service, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Guam Memorial Hospital Volunteers association, Guam Animals in Need, Pink Ball Guam Association, Filipino Association of Guam and numerous schools, churches, and sports groups.

Calvo is featured in portraiture on the cover of the Guam Business Magazine January-February issue, which was released at the gala. The annual gala is a fundraising event for non-profit organizations.

Calvo joined six other executives in vying for the prestigious award: Tamio “Tom” Clark, principal broker, Blue Pacific Realty; Ho S. Eun, founder and chairman, Core Tech International Group of Companies; Joe C. Guerrero, co-owner, Naked Fish Bar & Grill and principal consultant for Transcends Consulting; Michael A. Taitano, president of XVI Corp, owner of Guam Service Pros, Marianas Service Pros, Paramount Wholesale, and Prime Custom Cabinetry; Craig Wade, president and CFO of JRV Group, which does business as Mid Pac Far East LLC, Commercial Tire Depot LLC, Napa Auto Parts, and RKM Property Group LLC; and Kim Anderson Young, President, Security Title Inc.
