Cruz to challenge Moylan in November polls; Primary elections post 31.16% voter turnout

By Pacific Island Times News Staff

Ginger Cruz will advance to the general elections as the Democratic Party's candidate for the Guam delegate seat, challenging the incumbent Republican James Moylan.

Unofficial results from Saturday's primary showed Cruz garnering 5,103 votes, or 40.70 percent of the votes cast, beating Sen. Amanda Shelton, who had 4,259 votes and former Del. Michael San Nicolas, who received 3,142 votes.

Moylan, who ran unopposed in the primary, received 3,934 votes, accounting for 99.04 percent of the votes cast on the Republican side.

A total of 18,793 went to the polls, representing 31.16 percent of the 60,313, the total number of registered voters.

To advance to the November elections, a senatorial candidate must obtain at least 4 percent of the votes cast, or three times the number of signatures required for that petition.
