Frank Ishizaki to serve as DOC acting director

Former senator Frank Ishizaki has been appointed to serve as acting director of the Department of Corrections following the resignation of Samantha Brennan as head of the department.

“Senator Ishizaki will bring strength, stability, and proven leadership to DOC when we need it most, and he will do it for a second time,” said Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero. “Under his leadership, I truly believe that the Department has the potential to become one of our leading law enforcement agencies.”

Ishizaki is a FBI special agent, Homeland Security advisor, chief of police. “I see this as an opportunity to make some meaningful changes to the corrections agency— changes that will not only protect the community but also reduce recidivism and promote safety on our island,” Ishizaki said.

Current Acting Director Joe Carbullido will return to serving as the Acting Deputy Director and oversee daily operations at DOC. “With Captain Carbullido and Senator Ishizaki’s wealth of experience in local and federal law enforcement, as well as criminal justice reform, DOC is poised to overcome its challenges and the Governor and I will continue to support them every step of the way,” said Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio.
