A selection of artwork by local artists will be on display in an upcoming exhibition at the University of Guam’s Isla Center for the Arts. The biennial juried exhibition — “Creative Hands: Selected Works by Pacific Artists” — will open on Thurs. Dec. 6, with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the exhibit will remain open until Jan. 18.

The juror for the exhibition is Dr. Nancy Mithlo, a professor in the Department of Gender Studies at the University of California Los Angeles who has extensive curatorial experience. She has curated and co-curated more than 21 exhibitions, including nine displays for the Venice Bienniale between 2001 and 2017. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in anthropology from Stanford University (Calif.) and a bachelor’s in anthropology and art from Appalachian State University (N.C.).

Out of 118 submissions from 23 artists, Mithlo selected 26 works created by 15 artists for the exhibition.

The selected artists include Ron Canos, Julius Sotomayor Cena, Jeanie DeCandia, John Dierking, Judy Flores, Linda Frank, Olga Guse, Dorathina Herrero, Sarah Johnson, Tiger Kim, Alexa Kyung Lim, Richard Manglona, Rich Olmo, Robin Olmo and Dawn Lees Reyes.

The Isla Center for the Arts is located in House #15 in the Dean’s Circle on the UOG Campus. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday and holidays. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
