Funding for construction of new aircraft rescue and firefighting building
Guam’s Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport has been awarded a new $15,967,572 federal grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation (Federal Aviation Administration). That announcement Wednesday from Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo.
The more than $15.9 million federal funding award will allow the airport authority to construct a new aircraft rescue and firefighting building, in order to improve safety and rescue capabilities at the airport. This multi-million dollar federal award is on top of $3.5 million awarded to Airport Authority in September 2017 and another $5 million federal grant in September 2016, which funded the building project’s design phase. Guam’s only civilian airport serves some 3.6 million travelers each year, according to the most recent figures. Groundbreaking for the building construction is expected to be later this fall.
“I am thrilled to see more than $15.9 million in new federal funding come to the Guam International Airport for construction of the new aircraft rescue and firefighting building.
