WWII survivors, Liberators honored at Asan Memorial Ceremony

Guam Governor’s Office

Guam Governor Eddie Baza Calvo, Asan-Maina Mayor Frankie A. Salas and other dignitaries joined war survivors and their families at the Asan Landing Memorial Ceremony.

Asan was the major landing site of the American forces who freed the island from Japanese control during July 1944.

“We are here to honor the sacrifices of our parents, grandparents and family who suffered through the war, and those who came to our shores to liberate our island from occupying forces. We acknowledge all of those who paid the ultimate price and hope that this tragedy of war never happens again,” Governor Calvo said.

A prayer service was said at the memorial followed by a wreath laying by the Governor accompanied by Tita Mafnas to commemorate the victims.
